Survey Types
Pre Purchase Survey
This complete marine survey on new or used vessels is strongly advised when purchasing a vessel. The survey includes: hull, deck, engine systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, required safety items, electronics, cosmetic appearance, and overall maintenance. An out of the water inspection may also be performed. The pre-purchase survey is completed using the United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR's), American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) voluntary standards and local laws.
 
Basic Survey
This survey includes structural integrity and safety. This survey is adequate for most insurance companies to determine if the vessel is an acceptable risk. Many insurance companies may require a survey on vessels older than 10 years. The basic survey includes the, determination of the fair market value of the vessel. The basic survey is completed using the United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR's), American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) voluntary standards and local laws.
 
Sea Trial
A sea trial is conducted to document the performance, handling and mechanical operation of the vessel.
 
Appraisal Survey
This survey justifies or determines the fair market value of the vessel. This may be required for financing, estate settlements, and legal cases.
 
Engine/Generator Survey
An engine/generator survey benefits the prospective buyer. It provides a detailed examination of the engine and drive system without a costly tear down and rebuild of the systems. The engine/generator survey, conducted by Schmidt Marine Specialties, is conducted with state of the art computer engine diagnostic instruments.
 
Hull Ultra Sound Testing
This survey measures the hull thickness of steel or aluminum hulled vessel and is completed with state of the art diagnostic tools and techniques.
 
Infrared Thermal Imaging Services
Thermal imaging of hulls, engines, transmissions, generators and wiring can detect problems and potentially dangerous situations.
 
Damage Survey
This survey is used by the insurance industry for looking at damage and establishing origin and cause for an incident.
